Tokyo Tower vs Tokyo Skytree

When it comes to Tokyo’s most famous landmarks, two names immediately come to mind—Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Skytree. In this post, I’d like to share my personal perspective on both.

Best for Photography

If you’re looking for the perfect photo spot, Tokyo Tower is the better choice!

Completed in 1958, Tokyo Tower has preserved its classic appearance for over 60 years, giving it a nostalgic charm. Since it sits atop a hill, you can capture beautiful shots from a distance, whether from nearby parks or along the sloping streets.

On the other hand, Skytree is twice as tall as Tokyo Tower, making it difficult to photograph up close. Its sheer size can be overwhelming when trying to fit it into the frame!

Best for Shopping

In addition to being a popular tourist attraction, Tokyo Skytree is also a great shopping destination. At its base, you’ll find Solamachi, a shopping complex offering everything from traditional Japanese goods to fashion items. There’s even a Pokémon Center, making it a must-visit for Pokémon fans!

Tokyo Tower also has some shops, but they mainly focus on souvenirs. However, inside the tower, there’s a ramen shop called Gold Scorpion, where I personally go every week to enjoy their tantanmen (spicy sesame noodle soup)—it’s absolutely delicious!

Best for Night Views

For breathtaking night views, I highly recommend Tokyo Skytree.

Tokyo is home to over 10 million people, and from the Skytree’s observation deck, the city lights stretch endlessly like a glowing carpet.

Tokyo Tower, being lower in height, offers a different kind of view where you can see the city’s buildings and bridges in more detail.

Final Thoughts

So, which is better? Well, both Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Skytree have their own unique charm. If you have time, why not visit both and experience the differences for yourself?”
